Mount Perry is a small rural town in the North Burnett region of Queensland, roughly 100 kilometres inland from Bundaberg, and the golf club here reflects everything that makes outback Queensland country golf its own distinct tradition. The North Burnett is cattle and farming country, with open eucalypt woodland, red dirt, and a dry, sun-bleached character that shapes every course in the region. Expect wide skies, the sounds of native birds, and conditions that reward local knowledge — particularly how the sun-hardened ground plays.
As an 18-hole layout in a town of this size, Mount Perry Golf Club almost certainly relies on volunteer effort and genuine community passion to exist at all. That's not a knock — it's what makes these courses interesting. Country Queensland clubs carry a social warmth and a lack of pretension that larger resort venues rarely match, and the golf itself tends to be straightforward, fair, and genuinely enjoyable.
At par 70, the course runs slightly shorter than a standard layout, which in this heat and on firm turf can still play with plenty of bite. Visiting golfers typically find themselves welcomed without fuss — a cold drink, a friendly locals' competition on a Saturday, and golf that's entirely unpretentious.
