Sherborne

Few English market towns wear their history as visibly as Sherborne. The town's medieval abbey, a Norman castle, and the ruins of its older fortification sit within easy walking distance of one another, and the golf club exists comfortably within that same sense of accumulated time. Dorset's rolling limestone hills — the northern edge of the county, close to the Somerset border — give the course its natural contours, and the turf here has the firm, close-cropped quality that comes from chalk and limestone downland.
