Ponteland Golf Club sits just northwest of Newcastle, in the village of Ponteland — a prosperous commuter settlement on the edge of Northumberland's open countryside. The River Pont winds through the area, and the course makes good use of the gentle, rolling terrain that characterizes this transitional zone between Tyneside's urban fringe and the wilder landscapes heading north toward Hadrian's Wall country. It's a setting that feels genuinely rural despite the proximity to one of England's great northern cities.
The club has a long-established members' character, the kind of place where the game is taken seriously and the course is maintained to reflect that pride. Parkland layouts in this part of the northeast tend to reward accurate, thoughtful golf over raw power — tree-lined corridors, subtle ground movement, and the ever-present possibility of a north-country wind reshaping what looked like a straightforward card.
Newcastle has a passionate and historically deep golf culture, with strong clubs scattered across both Tyne and Wear and into Northumberland. Ponteland sits comfortably within that tradition — a well-regarded members' club serving a community that genuinely values the game.
