Golf des Rochers Sévigné

Few courses in Brittany announce themselves quite so deliberately through history. Vitré is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in France — its turreted château rises above a tangle of half-timbered streets that have barely changed since the 15th century — and Golf des Rochers Sévigné takes its name from the nearby Château des Rochers-Sévigné, the country estate where the celebrated 17th-century writer Madame de Sévigné spent much of her later life and composed a great portion of her famous correspondence. That literary and aristocratic backdrop gives the course an identity you simply won't find attached to most parkland layouts.

The golf itself unfolds across the gently rolling bocage landscape typical of eastern Ille-et-Vilaine — hedgerows, mature woodland, and the quiet agrarian calm that defines this corner of Brittany just before it tips into Normandy. The terrain lends itself to a course that rewards thoughtful positioning over raw power, with trees framing many corridors.

Vitré sits roughly equidistant between Rennes and Laval, making it a practical stop for golfers touring the region rather than a pure destination in itself. The Atlantic climate keeps the course green well into autumn, and the town alone — castle, ramparts, medieval quarter — justifies the detour.
