Sun Peaks is one of British Columbia's premier four-season mountain resorts, and its golf course sits at elevation in the Shuswap Highlands northeast of Kamloops, surrounded by the kind of dramatic interior scenery — open alpine meadows, lodgepole pine forest, and the broad shoulders of Tod Mountain — that makes it easy to forget you're supposed to be keeping score. The village itself was purpose-built around skiing, which gives the whole place an unusually polished, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere for a resort of its size.
Golf at altitude in the BC Interior means a short season, typically June through October, but also means the ball carries farther in the thinner air, fairways tend to firm up nicely in the dry continental summers, and the mountain backdrop is present on virtually every hole. Morning rounds often start cool before the Kamloops-area sunshine takes over decisively by midday.
As a resort course, this one is oriented toward guests staying in the village, though it draws day visitors from Kamloops and the Thompson-Okanagan corridor as well. Expect the experience to feel unhurried and scenery-forward — the mountains here do a lot of the design work.
