Grande Pointe sits about 20 minutes southeast of Winnipeg, out where the Red River plain opens up flat and wide — classic Manitoba prairie, big sky overhead, the land barely interrupted by a tree line or drainage ditch. Golf in this part of the province means contending with wind as a constant companion and a season compressed between May and October, which tends to breed a certain no-nonsense attitude toward the game.
Southside reads as a community-scale course serving the rural residential corridor along Highway 210, the kind of layout where locals build their games over many seasons and familiarity with every quirk becomes part of the pleasure. Prairie courses like this one earn their character not from elevation change — there isn't much — but from how they use water, rough grass, and especially wind to test shot-making and course management.
For visitors coming out from Winnipeg, Southside offers a genuine change of pace from the city's busier facilities: quieter, more relaxed, and rooted in the agricultural landscape that defines this corner of the Red River Valley.
