Few courses in Canada carry the quiet prestige of Kanawaki Golf Club, founded in 1904 on the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory just south of Montreal. The club takes its name from the community on whose land it sits, a fact that gives it a sense of place unlike virtually any other course in the country. Herbert Strong, who would later design Inwood Country Club and Armenian Golf Club among others, shaped the original layout — and the course has maintained a deliberately private, unhurried character across more than a century of play.
The land itself does much of the work. The terrain rolls with a natural rhythm through mature hardwood forest, producing a course that rewards shot-shaping and course management over raw power. A par of 70 signals a layout that prizes precision — expect two-shotters that demand accuracy rather than simply distance, and greens that have been refined over generations of serious club competition.
Montreal's golf history runs deep, and Kanawaki sits near its center. The club has long attracted a quietly devoted membership, and its reputation among Quebec golfers rests on atmosphere and integrity rather than any tournament spotlight.
