Few American golf courses can claim to have hosted Olympic competition, but Cherokee Run Golf Club carries that distinction. The course served as the venue for golf's demonstration events during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics — a moment that put this Conyers layout on a stage far beyond the typical club calendar. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, it opened in 1994 and quickly established itself as one of the stronger tests in the Atlanta metropolitan area, drawing on the rolling, wooded terrain of Rockdale County to create a layout with genuine strategic variety and visual character.
Conyers sits roughly 25 miles east of downtown Atlanta, in a part of Georgia where the Piedmont landscape begins to assert itself — gentle ridgelines, mature hardwoods, and red clay soils that give the region a distinctly Southern feel. Cherokee Run fits this setting well, with tree-lined corridors and elevation changes that reward course management over raw power.
The Palmer/Seay design era produced courses known for playability alongside legitimate challenge, and Cherokee Run reflects that philosophy. It offers a full, satisfying test without becoming punitive, making it a respected destination for both competitive and recreational play in a region with no shortage of quality options.
