Royal Highlands is a planned 55-and-older community in Leesburg, a lakeside city in Lake County, roughly midway between Orlando and Ocala in Florida's central highlands. The area lives up to its name — this part of the state sits on a subtle ridge that gives it a bit more elevation and roll than the flat coastal terrain most people picture when they think of Florida golf. Lake County's nickname, the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," isn't much of an exaggeration, and water is a constant presence in the landscape here.
The Monarch course is the centerpiece amenity of the Royal Highlands community, designed for the active-adult residents who live there. That context shapes everything about the experience: this is a course built to be played regularly and enjoyed, not to punish or intimidate, with an emphasis on walkability, fair challenge, and the social rhythms of a tight-knit membership.
For visitors, it's worth knowing that Lake County sits within easy driving distance of some of Florida's better public-access golf, with the Donald Ross-designed Leesburg Country Club among the historic options in the immediate area.
