Warley Park

Warley Park sits on the edge of Brentwood in Essex, occupying land that forms part of the former Warley Park estate — a Victorian-era country park that once served as the grounds of a grand mansion. The course opened in 1975 and was designed by Cotton, Pennink, Lawrie & Partners, the influential British design firm, making it one of the more thoughtfully laid-out parkland tracks in the county. Mature trees are the defining feature, framing nearly every hole and demanding accuracy off the tee far more than raw distance.

Essex isn't typically celebrated as golf country the way Kent or Surrey might be, but it quietly supports a strong club scene, and Warley Park is among the more respected private members' clubs in the area west of the county. The parkland setting gives the course a pleasantly secluded feel despite its proximity to the M25 corridor and the commuter sprawl of greater London's outer edge.

The layout plays to a par of 71, which places a premium on scoring well on the par 4s. Members tend to value the course for its conditioning and the genuine challenge its tree-lined corridors present when the rough is up.
