Fort Walton Beach sits along Florida's Emerald Coast, where the Florida Panhandle's distinctive landscape — longleaf and slash pines, wire grass understory, and the kind of sandy soil that drains fast and plays firm — sets it apart from the palm-lined resort corridors further south.
