The Golfclub Hünxerwald takes its name from the Hünxerwald, the forest that defines both its setting and its character. The course winds through this stretch of mature woodland in the lower Rhine region of North Rhine-Westphalia, where trees press close to fairways and the natural topography of the Ruhr's northwestern fringe does much of the course's defensive work. It's a layout where accuracy off the tee matters more than raw distance, and errant shots are quickly punished by the surrounding timber.
Hünxe itself sits in a quiet corner of NRW, between the industrial heritage of the Ruhr Valley to the south and the flatter, more open landscapes stretching toward the Dutch border. The local golf scene in this part of Germany leans toward well-maintained private and semi-private clubs embedded in the region's forests and river corridors — Hünxerwald fits that tradition comfortably.
For visiting golfers, this is a round that rewards patience and course management over power. The woodland setting gives it a sense of seclusion that belies its proximity to one of Europe's most densely populated urban corridors.
