General Pacheco sits about 30 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, in the sprawling Tigre partido where the Paraná Delta begins to fragment the land into islands, waterways, and low-lying floodplain. Golf has deep roots in this corridor — the northern Greater Buenos Aires zone hosts a remarkable concentration of private clubs, and the landscape, while flat, tends to offer natural hazards in the form of water and the kind of wind that rolls unimpeded across the pampas.
San Patricio Golf is a private members' club serving an established residential and sporting community in the area. The Irish saint's name — San Patricio is Spanish for Saint Patrick — speaks to the strong Irish immigrant influence that shaped Argentine culture, and particularly the Pampas region, from the 19th century onward. That heritage runs deep in Argentine golf more broadly, given that many of the country's founding clubs were built by British and Irish settlers.
