Bucksport sits along the Penobscot River in Hancock County, roughly midway up the Maine coast between Bangor and Bar Harbor. It's working-class coastal Maine in the best sense — a mill town with deep maritime roots, surrounded by the kind of spruce-and-fir landscape that defines the region. Golfers passing through on their way to Acadia National Park often overlook it, which suits the regulars just fine.
Bucksport Golf Club is the sort of course that exists to serve its community first and visiting players second, offering a genuine local experience rather than a destination resort package. Par 74 typically signals a layout built around the land as it was found, often featuring a pair of par 5s where a more manicured design might have stretched them into long 4s — a practical approach to terrain that keeps the round approachable without being toothless.
Summer in this part of Maine is short, sharp, and spectacular. Cooler temperatures, long evening light, and the smell of saltwater and pine make even an ordinary round feel like something worth driving out of your way for.
