Frenchtown sits in the shadow of the Rattlesnake Wilderness and the Garnet Range, tucked into the Missoula Valley where the Clark Fork River bends west toward Idaho. This is western Montana golf — big sky, ponderosa-scented air, and mountains in every direction — and King Ranch Golf Course occupies that landscape as a daily-fee public course serving the communities between Missoula and the Idaho line.
Montana's golf season runs hard against the calendar: the window from late spring to early fall is short but spectacular, with long summer days that stretch rounds into the evening light and morning rounds cool enough to remind you the Rockies are never far off. The Missoula area has a small but devoted local golf culture, and courses like King Ranch tend to draw a mix of regulars who know every bounce and visitors making their way through one of the more scenic corridors in the American West.
A par 72 layout suggests a full, traditional test with room to move the ball off the tee — the kind of course where the setting does as much work as the design.
