Few clubs on the Wirral Peninsula carry the prestige of Caldy Golf Club, which sits high on the sandstone ridge above the Dee Estuary with views that stretch across to the Welsh hills on clear days. Founded in 1907, the club has grown into one of the most respected members' clubs in the north of England, consistently ranking among the top courses in Cheshire and frequently appearing in national top-100 lists. The setting is genuinely dramatic — the elevated terrain gives the course a moorland-meets-links character that is relatively rare this far inland, with gorse a constant and punishing presence throughout.
The design rewards careful course management over raw power. Holes tumbling down toward the estuary offer some of the most memorable views in northern golf, and the wind off the Dee can transform the experience entirely depending on the day.
Caldy draws a loyal and knowledgeable membership, and the club takes its traditions seriously without feeling unwelcoming. For visiting golfers who can secure a tee time, it represents some of the finest golf the northwest has to offer.
