Dakota Dunes Country Club sits in the far southeast corner of South Dakota, perched near the confluence of the Missouri and Big Sioux rivers where South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa converge. The Dakota Dunes development itself is something of an anomaly in the region — a planned community that brought upscale residential living and a private country club to a stretch of the Missouri River corridor that most travelers simply pass through on their way somewhere else.
The course occupies terrain shaped by the Missouri's ancient floodplain, and that riverside setting gives it a character distinct from the windswept prairie golf you find across most of South Dakota. Mature trees, water features drawn from the natural hydrology of the area, and the big sky of the Great Plains all factor into the experience. Rounds here tend to be defined as much by the weather rolling off the river valley as by the layout itself.
As a private club, Dakota Dunes serves a membership drawn from the Sioux City metro area just across the state line — effectively functioning as a regional club for a tri-state community rather than a destination purely within South Dakota.
