Few mountain golf experiences in the Northeast carry the prestige of Stowe Mountain Club. Designed by Bob Cupp and opened in 2007, the course sits on the flanks of Mount Mansfield — Vermont's highest peak — within the Spruce Peak development at Stowe Mountain Resort. Cupp routed the layout through dense northern hardwood forest, and the result is a course that rewards precise shotmaking above almost everything else. Fairways are cut through stands of birch, maple, and spruce, with mountain vistas appearing at regular intervals to remind you exactly where you are.
The course plays as a genuine private club experience, and access has historically been tied to membership or ownership within the resort community. That exclusivity shapes the atmosphere — unhurried rounds, immaculate conditioning, and a sense that the mountain setting has been respected rather than bulldozed into submission.
Stowe itself is Vermont's most celebrated resort town, drawing visitors year-round for skiing, hiking, and cycling. Golf here occupies the warmer months with a short but vivid season, the surrounding foliage in September and October making an already dramatic setting nearly impossible to overstate.
