About

Tainan carries more history than almost anywhere else in Taiwan — it served as the island's capital for two centuries under Dutch and then Qing Dynasty rule, and that layered past gives the city a character distinct from the bustle of Taipei to the north. Golf arrived in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period, and the island has developed a serious competitive culture around the game ever since, producing players who have competed at the highest levels of the Asian Tour.

Without a more specific name to work from, pinning down the particular story of this course — its architect, its opening date, how its holes play against the southwestern Taiwan landscape — isn't something I can do reliably. What I can say is that golf in this part of Taiwan typically unfolds across terrain shaped by the island's subtropical climate: warm and humid for much of the year, with lush turf and vegetation that makes courses feel dense and vivid in a way that courses in cooler climates simply don't.

Tainan sits close to the island's flatter southwestern coastal plain, which tends to produce courses with a more parkland or agricultural feel rather than dramatic elevation changes. If you're traveling to the region, the city itself rewards time away from the course — the temple density alone makes it one of Taiwan's most compelling places to visit.
