Howard sits in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of southeast Queensland, about 30 kilometres northwest of Hervey Bay and well within reach of the Fraser Coast's unhurried pace of life. It's sugarcane and cattle country — flat, open, and sun-baked for much of the year — and the golf here reflects that landscape honestly rather than trying to disguise it. The Wide Bay corridor has a long tradition of community-run country clubs, where the social fabric of the game matters as much as the scorecard.
Burrum District Golf Club carries that spirit. An 18-hole layout in a regional town of this size speaks to real local commitment to the game, and courses like this one typically reward players who work with the conditions rather than against them — reading wind, managing firm fairways, and respecting greens that don't always behave the way city-manicured surfaces do.
At par 70, the course plays shorter than a championship test, which tends to put the emphasis on accuracy and course management. For visitors passing through on the way to Fraser Island or the Hervey Bay humpback whale season, it offers an honest, unpretentious round well off the resort circuit.
