Kodaikanal Golf Club

Few golf settings in India command quite this level of drama. Kodaikanal sits at roughly 2,100 meters in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu, and the golf club here — one of the oldest in the country — dates to the colonial era when British planters and administrators established hill stations as refuges from the plains heat. The course itself is short and unconventional by modern standards, a 9-hole layout played over rugged, undulating terrain where the hills do most of the architectural work.

What makes Kodaikanal memorable has little to do with length or difficulty in the conventional sense. Eucalyptus and shola forest press in around the fairways, mist rolls through regularly, and the elevation means the air carries a genuine chill even in summer. Shots behave differently up here — the ball flies farther in the thin air, and subtle breaks on the small greens can be tricky to read.

The town itself draws visitors to Kodaikanal Lake, its markets, and the broader Palani Hills landscape. The golf club fits that same unhurried character — a place where the round matters less than the surroundings it moves through.
