Few golf courses in Florida's Panhandle carry a name quite as evocative as this one. Shark's Tooth Golf Club sits in the Gulf County community near Port St. Joe, a corner of the Florida coast that has largely avoided the overdevelopment that defines so many Sunshine State resort corridors. The landscape here is flat and piney, punctuated by wetlands and the kind of coastal scrub that gives northwest Florida its particular, unhurried character.
The course was designed by Rick Robbins and opened in 2009 as part of the WindMark Beach development, playing through longleaf pine corridors with significant water features and natural preserve areas woven throughout. The routing rewards accurate iron play and demands respect for the wind that pushes in off the Gulf — a factor that never fully announces itself on a scorecard but defines the experience round to round.
For golfers who have exhausted the better-known layouts around Panama City or Destin, Shark's Tooth offers a legitimate reason to drive further west. The relative quiet of Gulf County is part of the appeal — this is golf without a crowd.
