Few American golf clubs carry a backstory quite like this one. Jasna Polana — Polish for "bright clearing" — was originally the private estate of Johnson & Johnson heir Seward Johnson Sr., and the property's elegance runs deep. The golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1999, built across the rolling, wooded terrain that characterizes central New Jersey's horse country. It quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest private layouts in the northeastern United States, with Fazio's routing making inventive use of the land's natural contours, mature hardwoods, and generous elevation changes.
The club sits just outside Princeton, a town whose identity is shaped by the Ivy League university at its center and a general sense of intellectual and aesthetic ambition — qualities that seem to carry over into the course itself.
