Rancho Murieta Golf & Country Club occupies a distinctive corner of Sacramento County, about 25 miles east of downtown Sacramento in the gated community that shares its name. The club actually operates 2 separate 18-hole courses — the North and South — set among the rolling oak woodlands and seasonal wetlands of the Sierra Nevada foothills. That foothill terrain, dramatic by California valley standards, gives the layouts genuine elevation change and a sense of remove from the suburban sprawl nearby.
The club has a legitimate competitive pedigree. Rancho Murieta has hosted LPGA Tour events over the years, giving its courses a level of conditioning and strategic scrutiny that most private clubs in the Sacramento region never see. The property's mature trees, water features, and firm fairways reward precise ball-striking over power.
