Lake Lanier Islands sits northeast of Atlanta in the foothills of the Georgia Blue Ridge, where the Army Corps of Engineers' impoundment of the Chattahoochee River created one of the Southeast's largest reservoirs in the late 1950s. The resulting landscape — rolling red-clay terrain broken by pine forests and long water views — has always been a natural fit for golf, and the resort community that grew up around the lake made the course a destination for metro Atlanta players looking to escape the city without a long drive.
The "Legacy" name suggests a layout designed to play as a straightforward test of traditional Georgia parkland golf, where the land does most of the talking. Expect the kind of tree-lined corridors and lake-influenced breezes that reward ball-strikers who can manage a round through varying elevation changes typical of the Piedmont foothills.
As part of the Lake Lanier Islands resort complex, the course draws a broad mix of vacationers, conference groups, and regulars from the surrounding Gainesville and Buford corridors — a setting where the surroundings are often the most memorable part of the round.
