Toqua Golf Club sits along the shores of Tellico Lake in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Tellico Village planned community that has made this corner of Loudon County one of East Tennessee's more active retirement and resort destinations. The course takes its name from the ancient Cherokee town of Toqua, which once stood in this valley before the Tennessee Valley Authority's Tellico Dam project in 1979 flooded the bottomlands and reshaped the landscape into the lake community that exists today. That history — layers of Cherokee settlement, frontier Tennessee, and mid-20th-century federal engineering — gives the land a weight that the golf course quietly inherits.
The setting delivers the kind of mountain-meets-water scenery that makes golf in this part of Appalachia genuinely memorable. Ridgelines frame the skyline, and the lake appears on multiple holes, bringing both beauty and wind into play.
Tellico Village operates several courses, and Toqua is generally regarded as the marquee layout among them — a full-length par 72 designed to reward strategic thinking across terrain that rises and falls with the natural contours of the Tennessee hill country.
