Golfclub De Berendock sits in the Wijchen municipality, just southwest of Nijmegen in the heart of Gelderland. This is a landscape shaped by the River Waal and the broader Rhine delta system — wide, flat polder terrain punctuated by patches of woodland and recreational water, which gives many Dutch parkland courses their particular character. De Berendock takes its name from the Berendonck recreational lake complex nearby, a well-known water sports destination for the region, and the surrounding green corridor gives the course a genuine sense of open countryside despite being only minutes from one of the Netherlands' larger cities.
The club operates as a members' course with a welcoming attitude toward visiting golfers, typical of the organized Dutch golf culture where handicap certificates are respected and course etiquette runs deep. Gelderland supports a healthy regional golf scene, and De Berendock serves as a solid everyday club option in an area where the terrain naturally lends itself to the Dutch parkland style — tree-lined fairways, managed water hazards, and firm, well-kept turf.
Nijmegen itself is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, carrying Roman and Second World War history in equal measure. Playing golf in its orbit means the surrounding landscape carries a quiet, layered weight that goes well beyond the course boundary.
