Nkana Golf Club

Nkana Golf Club takes its name from the Nkana copper mine, one of the largest and most storied mines on the Copperbelt — the industrial spine of central Africa that powered Zambia's economy through much of the 20th century. Kitwe grew up around that mining wealth, and Nkana Golf Club was built as part of that same company-town infrastructure, giving it the feel of a club with genuine roots in a community rather than a destination built for visitors.

Kitwe sits on the high plateau of the Copperbelt, around 1,200 metres above sea level, which keeps temperatures surprisingly moderate for equatorial Africa. The region's rainy season runs roughly November through April, and that reliable rainfall feeds the kind of lush, green conditions that can make a well-maintained Zambian course genuinely rewarding to walk.

As a members' club in a working Zambian city, Nkana is the sort of place where golf is a genuine local institution — competitive club structures, a loyal membership, and the particular social energy of a course that serves a real community rather than a passing tourist trade.
