Tucson sits in the Sonoran Desert, one of the most visually dramatic settings American golf has to offer. The landscape here is defined by saguaro cacti, ocotillo, palo verde trees, and the kind of rugged mountain backdrops — the Santa Catalinas, the Rincons, the Tucsons — that turn an ordinary round into something more like a walk through a living desert ecosystem. Golf in this corner of southern Arizona plays differently than almost anywhere else: elevation keeps the air thin and shots fly longer than expected, winters are mild and busy, and summer heat sends temperatures well past 100 degrees.
The name Preserve Golf Club suggests a layout designed to work with that desert terrain rather than fight it, likely routing holes through native vegetation corridors where the land has been left largely undisturbed. That approach is common among Tucson's better desert courses, where the penalty for a wayward shot isn't rough grass but rocks, cactus, and sandy washes.
Tucson has a legitimate golf pedigree — it has long attracted resort and residential golf development, and the broader market ranges from laid-back daily-fee tracks to polished private clubs. Without more specific records on Preserve's architect or history, the desert setting itself remains the course's most honest selling point.
