Solwezi sits in Zambia's Northwestern Province, a copper-rich corner of the country more associated with mining operations than fairways. Kansanshi Golf Club takes its name directly from the Kansanshi Mine — one of Africa's largest copper producers — which tells you a great deal about how this course came to exist. Company and mine-affiliated clubs have a long tradition across the Copperbelt and its surrounding region, built to serve expat workers and local communities alike, and this is very much that kind of course: a place with genuine social roots, where the 19th hole matters as much as the first tee.
Northwestern Province receives substantial rainfall during its long wet season, which feeds the kind of lush, tropical vegetation that gives bush golf in this part of Africa its distinctive character. Expect wildlife in the periphery, red laterite earth where the turf thins, and a layout that rewards local knowledge.
A par of 73 hints at a course that doesn't follow convention too rigidly — likely an extra par 5 worked into the routing — which feels appropriate for a club that exists well outside the mainstream of African golf.
