Alnwick Castle Golf Club sits in one of the most dramatically situated towns in northern England, at the edge of Northumberland's ancient border country where English and Scottish history collide at nearly every turn. The course occupies ground within sight of Alnwick Castle, the ancestral seat of the Percy family and the largest inhabited castle in England outside Windsor — a backdrop that makes even a routine approach shot feel like something out of a different era entirely.
The layout is a compact, traditional parkland and moorland mix that rewards local knowledge and punishes wayward ball-striking. Par 70 keeps the card modest, but the Northumberland wind that funnels down from the Cheviot Hills can transform familiar holes into something considerably more demanding. This is golf played on real, working landscape rather than a manicured showcase.
Alnwick sits on the A1 corridor between Newcastle and Edinburgh, making it a natural stop for golfers travelling the northeast. The wider region also offers access to Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh, making this part of Northumberland quietly one of England's most rewarding stretches for course-hopping.
