Golf du Rochat

Few golf courses in France sit at genuine alpine elevation, but Golf du Rochat earns that distinction on the Plateau du Rochat, perched above Les Rousses at roughly 1,150 metres. Les Rousses is a well-known cross-country skiing destination in the Haut-Jura, and the course occupies the same open, wind-exposed upland terrain that defines the area's winters — which means a short season, typically running from late spring through early autumn, and conditions that can shift dramatically within a single round.

The setting does most of the storytelling here. The Jura plateau landscape is wide and pastoral rather than dramatically steep, with sweeping views toward the Dôle and, on clear days, the Swiss border just kilometres away. Fairways move through high meadows and stands of fir, and the light at altitude has a quality you simply don't find on lowland parkland courses.

As a mountain resort course, Golf du Rochat attracts visitors drawn primarily to the Haut-Jura regional park rather than dedicated golf travellers — which gives it an unpretentious, unhurried character that suits the setting well.
