Few private clubs in southern Kentucky carry the reputation that Olde Stone does. Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 2001, the course occupies a dramatic stretch of Barren County terrain where rolling limestone ridges and mature hardwood corridors define nearly every hole. Hills shaped a layout that rewards strategic thinking over raw power — wide enough off the tee to invite an aggressive line, but with approach angles and greenside contours that consistently expose poor shot selection. The course has earned consistent recognition among Kentucky's elite layouts, and its membership has worked to keep the conditioning at a level that matches that standing.
Alvaton sits just outside Bowling Green, a mid-sized city with a legitimate golf culture anchored by Western Kentucky University and a region that takes its private clubs seriously. The surrounding countryside — gently folded farmland giving way to wooded bluffs — gives Olde Stone a sense of remove that feels earned rather than manufactured.
This is a member-first club, and it plays that way: unhurried, well-maintained, and built around the assumption that golf here is something to be savored rather than processed.
