Theodore Wirth has been part of the Minneapolis park system for over a century, making it one of the oldest continuously operating municipal courses in Minnesota. The course sits within Theodore Wirth Regional Park — a sprawling, heavily wooded greenspace on the western edge of Minneapolis — and plays through terrain shaped by glacial activity, with rolling elevation changes and mature tree corridors that feel more like a private woodland retreat than a city-owned public track. It shares the park with cross-country ski trails, wetlands, and one of the metro's most beloved natural areas, which gives the whole experience a character that's genuinely uncommon for an urban muni.
The course has long served as an entry point for Twin Cities golfers, drawing regulars who appreciate its accessibility and the honest challenge its tree-lined fairways present. Wayward drives are quickly punished by the thick stands of hardwoods that border much of the layout.
Golden Valley sits just minutes from downtown Minneapolis, but inside the park boundaries that distance evaporates entirely.
