Subic Golf Club

Few golf settings in Southeast Asia carry as much layered history as this one. Subic Golf Club occupies land within the former Subic Bay Naval Base, the sprawling U.S. military installation that anchored American naval power in the Pacific for nearly a century before the Philippine Senate voted to close it in 1991. What followed was one of the more remarkable base conversions in modern history — the Subic Bay Freeport Zone — and the golf course exists as part of that transformation, a recreational amenity carved from what was once strictly military terrain.

The setting along Subic Bay is genuinely dramatic. Olongapo sits at the edge of Zambales province, where the Zambales Mountains descend toward a deep natural harbor sheltered by dense tropical forest. The vegetation is lush and ever-present, the humidity real, and the landscape feels nothing like a manicured golf resort — it has the rawness of a place that was something else entirely before the fairways arrived.
