Straddling the Blue Ridge foothills of upstate South Carolina, Links O'Tryon sits in a corner of the state that most golfers drive through rather than stop in — which has quietly kept this course the kind of place regulars feel proprietary about. Campobello is a small, unassuming community near the North Carolina line, and the course draws from that same unfussy character.
The name announces the design ambition: a links-style layout interpreted through Piedmont terrain, trading the coastal dunes and sea winds of a true Scottish links for the rolling transitional landscape where the Carolina foothills begin to flatten. That can be a tricky promise to keep inland, but the open exposure and the absence of heavy tree canopy give the course a windswept quality that earns the designation more than many imitators do.
The area sits within reasonable reach of Spartanburg and Greenville, giving it a solid regional base of regulars without the resort-town bustle. For visiting golfers, it offers a low-key round in genuinely pretty upstate terrain — unpretentious golf in a part of the South that doesn't oversell itself.
