Doug Carrick's design at Cobble Beach opened in 2008 along the southern shore of Georgian Bay, and it immediately drew comparisons to the great links-influenced courses of Scotland — not as flattery, but as genuine geographic logic. The exposed limestone cobble shoreline, the persistent winds off the bay, the fescue-framed fairways: Carrick leaned into the natural drama of the Bruce Peninsula rather than fighting it, producing one of Ontario's most celebrated resort courses and a perennial presence on Canada's top-course lists.
Georgian Bay defines the experience here in ways no scorecard can convey. The wind shifts direction and intensity throughout a round, turning a docile iron into a guessing game, and the views across the water toward the Niagara Escarpment provide a backdrop that rewards slow play. Several holes run directly along the bay's edge, where errant shots find cobblestone beach instead of rough.
Owen Sound sits at the southern tip of Georgian Bay, a working harbour town with a rugged, four-season character that suits the course perfectly. Cobble Beach is a destination worth building a trip around, not merely a stop on the way somewhere else.
