Soldotna sits in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula, a place better known for world-class salmon fishing on the Kenai River than for golf — which makes finding an 18-hole layout here something of a genuine surprise. The Kenai Peninsula's summers are long on daylight, with stretches of late-evening light that let rounds stretch well past what the clock might suggest, and the surrounding landscape of spruce forest, wetlands, and distant mountain views gives any round here a setting most golfers in the lower 48 simply never encounter.
Bird Homestead reads as a course rooted in the community rather than designed for destination traffic — the kind of place where locals log their seasons and visitors stumble upon it between fishing trips. The par of 74 hints at a layout with some par 5s or par 3s that break from the conventional template, giving the course its own arithmetic personality.
Golf this far north in Alaska carries a particular novelty. The remoteness is real, the scenery is genuine, and a round here is less about benchmarking your game than about playing somewhere most golfers never will.
