Woodland Golf Club

Few private clubs in Greater Boston carry quite the historical weight of Woodland Golf Club. Founded in 1897, it ranks among the oldest golf institutions in New England, and its grounds in Auburndale — a village within Newton — reflect more than a century of careful stewardship. The course was designed by Donald Ross, the Scottish-born architect whose fingerprints are on so many of the region's finest layouts, and his characteristic work is evident throughout: subtly contoured greens, natural terrain routing, and a quiet insistence that the land itself does most of the talking.

Woodland sits on rolling, wooded ground typical of the Newton hills, where mature hardwoods frame nearly every hole and give the course an intimate, almost cloistered feel through the seasons. Autumn play here is particularly striking, as the canopy turns and the fairways collect golden light.
