Abruzzo Golf Club sits in the Chietino hills near Brecciarola, a small village just outside Chieti in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. This is a part of the country that most traveling golfers overlook entirely, which gives the club a genuinely local character — a course built for the people who live here rather than for a tourist circuit. The surrounding landscape is quintessential inland Abruzzo: rolling agricultural terrain, scattered woodland, and on clear days the dramatic backdrop of the Gran Sasso massif and the Majella mountain range defining the horizon in ways that few European courses can match.
Abruzzo itself is one of Italy's most quietly compelling regions, a place where the Apennines descend toward the Adriatic coast within a remarkably short distance. The golf here reflects that rugged, unhurried setting rather than the manicured resort aesthetic of courses further north or on the coast.
As a members' club serving a regional rather than international audience, the atmosphere tends toward the convivial and unpretentious — the kind of place where Sunday rounds run long because nobody is in a particular hurry to leave.
