Few golf destinations in mainland China carry the pedigree of Xian Cun International Golf Club. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in the 1990s during the first wave of world-class course development in the Pearl River Delta, it established itself quickly as one of the premier layouts in Guangdong province. The Nicklaus design philosophy is evident throughout — generous landing areas that reward aggressive play from the tee, but approaches guarded by water hazards, sculpted bunkering, and firm, fast greens that demand precision. The course has hosted significant professional and amateur competition over the years, cementing its reputation as a serious test rather than a showcase resort novelty.
The club sits in Xian Cun township, roughly an hour northeast of central Guangzhou, in the low-lying, subtropical terrain characteristic of the Pearl River plain. Lush tropical vegetation, warm temperatures for much of the year, and the high humidity of southern China mean the course plays soft and green for most of the calendar.
For visiting golfers, Xian Cun offers something increasingly rare in the Pearl River Delta's crowded golf market: a mature, well-established layout with real competitive history behind it and the unmistakable stamp of a Hall of Fame designer at the height of his international practice.
