Mount Barker sits in the Stirling Range foothills of southern Western Australia — though Queensland claims a town of the same name, the presence of a course called Narpanup here points firmly to the WA version, a small agricultural community surrounded by canola fields, sheep country, and the dramatic peaks of Bluff Knoll country. This is rural golf at its most unadorned, the kind of club that exists because a community decided it should, and has been maintained by the same hands that work the surrounding farms.
Narpanup GC carries a name drawn from the local Aboriginal language, grounding it in a landscape that long predates the game itself.
