Few places in British golf offer quite the setting that greets you on the Isle of Man. Rowany Golf Club sits on the southwest coast of this small, fiercely independent island in the Irish Sea, occupying linksland along the shoreline near Port Erin. The terrain is classic: wind-sculpted turf, natural undulations, and sea views that remind you constantly that you're playing somewhere genuinely apart from the mainland golfing circuit.
The course runs to a par 70, which on a true links tends to mean fewer par 5s and more emphasis on precise iron play and thoughtful course management. Links golf on the Isle of Man is dictated by the prevailing westerly winds off the Irish Sea — a calm scorecard can become an exercise in survival when the breeze picks up, and it nearly always does.
The Isle of Man has its own golfing identity, distinct from both Ireland and Britain despite borrowing from both traditions. Rowany is the kind of club where membership runs deep through local families, and visitors are welcomed into something that feels genuinely lived-in rather than packaged for tourism.
