Fuzhou's golf scene occupies a curious geographic position — the city sits directly across the Taiwan Strait from Taipei, making it one of the most politically charged stretches of water in the world, and yet golf has quietly taken root here as Fujian Province has grown into one of coastal China's more prosperous regions. The strait itself gives this course its name: 海峡 means "strait" or "channel," a nod to that defining geographic reality just beyond the city's eastern edge.
Fujian's terrain is rugged and green, shaped by subtropical humidity, forested hillsides, and the Min River delta that spreads through Fuzhou. Courses in this part of China tend to work with dramatic elevation changes and lush, fast-growing vegetation that creates a dense, enclosed feel quite different from the more manicured resort golf of Hainan or the north.
As a destination, Fuzhou remains well off the international golf circuit, giving 海峡高尔夫球场 a decidedly local character — the kind of club where the membership reflects the city's business community rather than visiting tourists, and where the game is played with genuine regional pride.
