Few destinations in American golf deliver the full subtropical package quite like Naples — warm winters, lush fairways, and a golf scene so dense it's practically its own attraction. Lely Resort sits within a sprawling planned community on the southeastern edge of the city, home to multiple courses that together give the property a genuine destination feel.
Lely Resort's Mustang and Flamingo Island courses were both designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and the latter opened to considerable attention in 1990. The Flamingo Island Club, in particular, earned recognition as one of the top resort courses in Florida, with its sculpted bunkering, water features, and the polished conditioning that Jones's trademark strategic style demands. The Classics course, added later, brought a Lee Trevino design to the mix — a layout that leans more playable and welcoming for the full range of resort guests.
The surrounding landscape is unmistakably southwest Florida: palms, preserves, and egrets stalking the edges of greens. For visiting golfers, Lely offers variety within a single address, which is the real draw.
