Claremore sits in Rogers County in northeastern Oklahoma, a region of gently rolling tallgrass prairie, red-clay soil, and the kind of big, open skies that characterize the Cherokee Nation's historic homeland. It's also the birthplace of Will Rogers, and that no-nonsense, unpretentious character tends to run through everything in town — golf included. The area's terrain naturally lends itself to parkland-style layouts where elevation changes and tree-lined corridors give a course genuine shape without needing much artifice.
Heritage Hills Golf Course is a public facility that serves the everyday golfers of Claremore and the surrounding Tulsa metro corridor, roughly 30 miles to the southwest. Courses like this one are the backbone of regional golf — accessible, familiar to locals, and often better conditioned and more strategically interesting than their reputations suggest.
The par-71 configuration is a detail worth noting: that missing par 5 (compared to a standard 72) usually means the design asks something different of you — likely a stretch of demanding par 4s where length off the tee gets tested without the relief of a reachable 5.
