남촌CC sits in Gwangju-si, a city in Gyeonggi-do province that occupies the southeastern edge of the greater Seoul metropolitan area — close enough to the capital that it draws a steady stream of weekday and weekend players from the city, yet far enough that the terrain begins to take on the rolling, forested character of the Gyeonggi highlands. The course works with the natural contours of this hilly landscape, a setting typical of courses in this part of Korea where architects must route holes around and through wooded ridgelines rather than over flat ground.
Gyeonggi-do is home to one of the densest concentrations of golf courses in Asia, and competition for members and green-fee players is fierce. Courses in this corridor tend to be well-maintained and service-oriented, catering to Korean golfers who take both the game and its hospitality rituals — the caddie system, the post-round meal, the clubhouse experience — seriously.
For visitors unfamiliar with Korean golf culture, that full-service caddie format means the round itself is social and guided, with local knowledge baked into every group. The forested hills around Gwangju provide a genuine sense of removal from Seoul's density, even when the city feels just over the ridge.
