Maamba is a coal-mining town in Zambia's Southern Province, sitting close to the Sinazongwe district along the shore of Lake Kariba — one of the world's largest man-made reservoirs. The landscape here is raw and distinctly African: dry miombo woodland, red earth, and a climate that swings between punishing heat in the hot season and cooler, more forgiving conditions between May and August. Maamba Golf Club reflects that character — a full 18-hole, par-72 layout that almost certainly owes its existence to the workforce and management culture surrounding the Maamba Collieries.
