Curtis Strange's name is stamped on Brickshire Golf Club, which opened in 2005 as the signature design project of the two-time U.S. Open champion who grew up in Virginia and has long been one of the state's most celebrated golfers. The course plays through the rolling, wooded terrain of New Kent County, roughly midway between Richmond and Williamsburg, and Strange's routing makes full use of the property's natural contours, mature hardwoods, and occasional wetland carries. It's a layout that rewards accuracy and course management over raw power — fitting for a designer who built his own game on precision.
Providence Forge sits in a part of Virginia with genuine golf heritage, close enough to the Richmond metro to draw a broad range of players yet retaining a quieter, countryside feel. The James River corridor nearby gives the whole region a distinct mid-Atlantic character — humid summers, mild springs, and fall conditions that can be genuinely excellent for golf.
Brickshire functions primarily as a semi-private club with community ties, serving both residents of the surrounding development and outside visitors. It represents the kind of well-conceived, architect-driven course that central Virginia does quietly well.
