Lee Valley Golf & Country Club

Lee Valley Golf & Country Club sits in the Ovens valley about 12 miles west of Cork city, occupying a stretch of the River Lee corridor where the landscape opens into soft, rolling farmland before the terrain rises toward the Shehy Mountains. The club was founded in the early 1990s and the course was designed by Christy O'Connor Jr., whose reputation for building courses that reward strategic thinking over raw power is evident throughout. O'Connor Jr. routed the layout cleverly across the undulating ground, using the natural fall of the land and the river's presence to create risk-reward scenarios that stay interesting across repeated rounds.

The course carries a genuine parkland character — mature trees framing many holes, the ground rarely flat, and a premium placed on accurate iron play and course management. It has developed a strong local following and is considered one of the more serious members' clubs in County Cork, a county that punches well above its weight in Irish golf.

Ovens itself is a small rural townland, quiet and agricultural, which gives the club an unhurried atmosphere that contrasts pleasantly with its proximity to Cork city. Members get a proper country-club feel without straying far from one of Ireland's most vibrant cities.
